The Department of Philosophy has the following academic aims:
- To develop
the habit of critical and creative learning, by providing a philosophical
dimension to the student's education through its service and major courses and
through its co-curricular activities.
- To
contribute to the holistic formation of the morally intelligent and socially
responsive professional, by providing-- in all its philosophy classes-- and
atmosphere that facilitates the assimilation of knowledge and values relevant
to one's life situation.
- To prepare
the students in the undergraduate philosophy programs for their profession, by
training them in the Aristotelian-Thomistic tradition as a starting point for
a more profound study of other philosophical orientation.
- To enable
the students in the graduate philosophy programs to attain a more profound
grasp of their discipline, and to enhance their competence in doing
independent research.
- To promote
the total development of its faculty by ensuring their participation in
relevant conferences or seminar workshops, their pursuit of graduate and
inter-disciplinary studies, and their involvement in researches and meaningful
community outreach projects.
- To
facilitate the continued professional growth of its alumni, and the
philosophical teachers in Southern Philippines through the conventions
initiated by PHAVISMINDA --- the Philosophical Association of the Visayas and
Mindanao.
